Laurel Hester was a long-serving police officer whose final years of her life were spent fighting for the rights that heterosexual couples can take for granted. Cynthia Wade’s award-winning documentary, Freeheld, tells that story.
You can also get more information about the film from the Freeheld website, including an interview with Laurel Hester, filmed 6 weeks before her death. And you can check out this vid from Garden State Equality, and following links from it to more recent activities.
